Welcome to Another Prompt Friday!
Write this scene. A woman is waiting at a bus stop and shares a passionate kiss with a stranger. Is it love or something else?
My Response
Marvelle Bus Stop
Marvelle, New Jersey
Amerie Hoffman ran to catch the 307 bus but missed it. It flew past her as she ran down the street.
“Damn.” She shouldn’t have hit snooze on her phone alarm. Now she would have to wait twenty minutes for the next 307 bus. She missed her car already. It would be in the shop until Friday.
She stopped running because there was no need. She walked another minute, reached her stop, and sat down. Thank God that it was shaded; the sun was fierce today. That was what she loved about Marvelle’s bus stops; they all had shelters. It made for a great cover. She crossed her legs and retrieved her phone from her purse. She played her favorite game, Mahjong.
An anonymous text message appeared on her screen. It was strange, but she got excited every time she got a message from that person. The text messages started a year ago when she first took the 307 bus because her car was in the shop. Every three months, she received a text message asking how she and her adoptive son were doing.
Amerie figured it was somebody who knew she had adopted. A lot of people knew, so why check up on her anonymously? The person would also recite poetry. She had asked if the person wrote them, but she never got an answer.
The text message instructed her to feel under the bench and retrieve a gift. She did what she was told and grabbed a red rose and a note. It read: “You are light in a dark world. You’re peace. You are kind and unselfish. You are hope when I thought there was none.”
Amerie smiled through tears. Who was this person?
A gentleman sat next to her. Their eyes locked in recognition. Her heart raced. She tried to contain her excitement. He wore a grey suit this time. He stared at her, those hazel eyes roaming over her. He reached for her face and caressed it. He slowly leaned in, and she leaned closer, and their lips locked in a familiar embrace.
He slid his tongue into her mouth, tasting her. Amerie wrapped her arms around his neck. He wrapped his left arm around her, pulling her flush against him, and the kiss deepened. They broke the kiss and rested their foreheads against each other’s.
“Who are you?”
“I’m the judge and the brother of your adoptive son.”
She pulled away abruptly. “What?”
“He’ll be safe with you.”
“Safe from who?” She stood.
He stood and pulled her close. “I know who you really are.”
That couldn’t be. Her identity was airtight. Could she be compromised? Amerie’s eyes widened. The text messages.
He pressed his lips against hers one more time. She couldn’t help but hold him. She savored the kiss, not wanting it to end. He pulled slightly away from her and looked her in the eyes.
“You’ve just been activated.”
