Welcome to Another Free Verse Friday.
This week’s poem reflects on one of life’s major milestones. Turning forty often brings a mix of reflection, uncertainty, acceptance, and hope. “40” explores the realization that while some dreams may have been delayed and some expectations left unmet, there is still time to embrace change, pursue new beginnings, and write the next chapter of your story.
40
The turning point where life can no longer be the same.
The aches and pains increase, and the lack of sleep leaves you deprived.
Life’s regrets drown your thoughts and dreams.
40
When dreams once took a back seat—now want to reclaim the driver’s seat.
40
When you realize that the life you wanted to live is nonexistent.
The future is shaky, as well as your sanity.
Your hormones are off the charts and often switch up like you’re performing arts.
40
That big 4-O.
The day your life is permanently altered.
It is yet to be determined whether it is good or bad.
40
Stop living in the past, pluck those stars from the sky, and make your own light.
40
Accept change.
Accept that your life has always been changing, and some part of you has been left behind.
40
You must now face it head-on.
40
No more excuses.
40
The time is now for new beginnings.
40
The next chapter awaits, ready for you to start.
